75 Years of Independence

Hello Hello, Happy Independence Day to all. Here are we, the millennials, celebrating the 75th Independence Day of our dear homeland. We are the ones who have sung 'Dil Dil Pakistan' and 'Jeeway Jeeway Pakistan' throughout our childhood. We are the ones who have decorated our homes and schools with the Pakistani Flag and Pennants, with paper flowers and garlands on the joyous occasion. We are the ones who have delivered speeches about the sacrifice of our forefathers for this beautiful country. We are the ones who have experienced goosebumps watching the 23rd March Parades. We are the ones who have cried watching plays like "Alpha Bravo Charlie" and "Sunehry Din". Because we are the ones who were given the lesson of Patriotism by our elders.

Have you ever thought about what we are teaching to our youngsters in the name of patriotism?? Most of the members of Gen X are unfamiliar with the term patriotism. They are least interested in the affairs of the dear homeland. My heart cries out loud when I listen to them saying, "What this country has given to us?" My reply to them has always been, "My Dear ones! Have you ever thought about what you have given to this country?".

Today Most kids plan their future in some foreign country. They are so much under the influence of foreign cultural invasion that they even sing foreign language songs. They know what is happening around the globe but they are not aware of things happening in Pakistan.

They know about the latest technological advancements but they hardly ever bother about how the technology could be used for the betterment of their own country. They have tried all flavors of McDonald's and KFC but they scarcely know about Pakistani cuisine. They can easily speak English and French but they can barely utter a single phrase in good Urdu. Yes, this is what our new generation is.

But the question is what role did we play in teaching them all this? Where do we stand?

Well well, the answer is bitter but true, we have failed the responsibility given to us by our predecessors. This was our responsibility to teach our coming generations who we really are. As was taught to us by our elders but we have failed.

Someone said "Better Late than Never". We can still do wonders if we start taking our responsibility seriously. Let's pledge on this special occasion of the 75th Independence Day of Pakistan that we will take it upon ourselves to teach our coming generations the values of our country. We will teach them what this country has given to us and the sacrifice that was made to achieve it. We will teach them that Pakistan has given us the identity around the world and one InshaAllah it will lead the whole Islamic World. The time is not far. Maybe we wouldn't be there to see this happening. But our Gen X and Gen Alpha will bear witness to this wonderful event. Now, this is our prime obligation to prepare them to be worthy patriotic citizens of the World's leading country.

Long Live Pakistan.

Stay Blessed!
